SUMMARY:Asian Grocery
DESCRIPTION:For the Asian Grocery exhibition\, seven Melbourne artists who have identity connections with Korea\, Malaysia\, China\, Vietnam\, Japan\, the Philippines and Iran have explored a mix of traditions\, symbols and objects from the very diverse cultures of Asia. Producing artworks in the form of trinkets\, tokens and packaged goods\, they have taken inspiration from stereotypical\, quirky Asian grocery products (fake foods\, strange household goods and shamanic instruments). \nAlong with inspecting the goods and artworks\, the public can participate in free East Asian printmaking workshop led by the Grocer\, printmaking artists\, who will be adorned in quirky Asian traditional clothes and will interact with members of public in a performative manner. Throughout the workshop process\, the Grocer will make conversation about their perception of ‘being Asian’ and encourage participants to contribute to a collective live art space. \nPresented during Cultural Diversity Week\, in partnership with Creative Victoria and Multicultural Arts Victoria. \nOpening event: 18 March 12pm-4pm (performance\, printmaking workshop)\nClosing event: 25 March 12pm-4pm (performance\, printmaking workshop) \n

SUMMARY:ArtPlay Jatra Jatra Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Be inspired by the artist’s amazing Tramjatra design to create your own bold and colourful patterns\, as part of a collaborative artwork with Tramjatra artist Bushra Hasan. What makes you happy? What’s important to you? And how would you represent your journey in life so far? Learn about the symbols used in Bushra’s Tramjatra design and how she put it all together to then create images and motifs that express your own story. \nWe will be making one large artwork on the ArtPlay wall and each person will have a section to complete. First\, play around with different ideas through sketching; then use mixed media such as paint\, collage\, pencil and stickers to test out techniques and bring your work to life. Then place all the sections on the wall\, to see the artwork come together as one! \nYou will be emailed an image of the final artwork to share with family and friends. \nAge: 7 to 12 years. Adults are not required to stay. \nTwo sessions: 10:30am-12pm & 2pm-3:30pm \n
