Turkish Pazar Festival
Saturday March 10 10:00 am - Free
Sunday March 11 4:00 pm
The Turkish Pazar Festival transforms the Queen Victoria Market into a traditional Turkish street market. Visitors will experience the vibrant tastes, colours and sounds of Turkey through food, music, arts and crafts and cultural displays. All entertainment is free and suitable for everyone.
A day-long traditional Turkish breakfast and numerous food stalls will entice the taste buds with an array of sweet and savoury flavours. Offerings include gözleme (savoury pancakes), kebabs (how many types are there?), midye dolmasi (stuffed mussels), Turkish Delight and baklava (sweet pastries).
After enjoying an authentic Turkish coffee prepared on a hot bed of sand, visitors can have their fortune told.
The day-long stage program includes overseas and local performers. On Sunday a highlight will be the military precision of the colourful Australian Mehter Band, the first Ottoman-style marching band outside Turkey. Folklore groups will perform on both Saturday and Sunday and children’s activities are also available both days.
