Join us for Victoria’s largest multicultural celebration from 17 – 25 March.
Proudly presented by the Victorian Multicultural Commission, with support from the Victorian Government, Cultural Diversity Week 2018 invites Victorians to embrace and celebrate the cultural diversity of our state.
With an exciting program of festivals and events across metropolitan and regional areas, there is something for everyone! The Week begins with a spectacular evening of entertainment and dancing at the Premier’s Gala Dinner on Saturday 17 March and peaks at the much-loved Victoria’s Multicultural Festival and Culture Waves on Saturday 24 March at Federation Square where there will be an incredible line up of music, dance, food, arts and activities for all ages.
Held annually in March to coincide with the United Nations Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination and Harmony on 21 March, the Week is not only a time for celebration, it is also a time for reflection on our state’s success as a multicultural society and the role we all play in helping to ensure our communities are welcoming and inclusive.
This year our theme, ‘Proud to belong’, focuses on the everyday diversity of Victorians and asks us to share our stories with one another. What is it that makes you love the diversity of our state? What makes you feel proud to be a Victorian and what gives you a sense of belonging? We ask you to join the conversation, to share your thoughts and your stories and show us what makes you proud to belong.
The art of storytelling is also the common thread linking the VMC Film Festival, which explores short films that explore the theme ‘My generation: stories of everyday multiculturalism’, with submissions closing on Tuesday 24 April.
You can also get involved in the Week by hosting your own event, registering it on our events calendar, or finding an event to attend in your local area. Everyone who registers their event on our website will get access to promotional materials to support the promotion of their event for Cultural Diversity Week.
