At CommBank, communities are at the core of our purpose and we take great pride in our commitment to support multicultural communities, celebrating and honouring their vibrant heritages alongside them.
We recognise the importance of creating better experiences for our customers through understanding their needs.
In recognition of this, a dedicated Multicultural Community Banking division has been created to foster empathy and understanding by deepening relationships, enhancing financial inclusion and promoting social cohesion so our customers feel supported.
The team brings to life the Bank’s commitment by ensuring strong grassroots and authentic engagement, developing strong networks and relationships, forming strategic partnerships with government, multicultural bodies and communities and delivering meaningful and relevant community programs.
Since the establishment of Multicultural Community Banking division, Commonwealth Bank has implemented several programs in Victoria, including:
• A Multicultural Mentoring program in partnership with Victoria University, which has seen over 40 Commonwealth Bank managers mentor students who come from culturally diverse and disadvantaged backgrounds, supporting them in their transition to working in a culturally diverse environment.
• An internship initiative in the Western suburbs of Victoria in partnership with the Melbourne Employment Forum which has seen us providing meaningful employment opportunities for members of the African community.
• A financial literacy and education support in collaboration with our
School Banking Team as part of our partnership with the Islamic Museum
of Australia which has the potential to reach over 10,000 school children.
• And formed partnerships with Youth Activating Youth (YAY) and 3ZZZ Melbourne Ethnic Community Radio station to further engage the
multicultural communities in Victoria.
These initiatives are in addition to supporting various communities through events, festivals and Iftar dinners, all which seek to foster and
support social cohesion.
Commonwealth Bank wishes our customers, employees and all Victorians
a wonderful celebration during Cultural Diversity Week 2019.
